Mock Up / Potential Look for Digi Pak and Advertisement

 

 

Mock up Of Potential Digi Paks :

 

 

Now that our Music Video is done and that we have learnt what is needed to make a Digi Pak , in lesson today we recapped the codes and conventions of real digi paks .

 

After recapping this as a group we had to discuss collectively what our collective theme would be in our digi paks , and what colours , pictures and even fonts we might all want to use on our own ancillary products , as the Music Video was a group effort and production , which means in our individual ancillary work we have to have some of the same elements .

 

After our productive brainstorm , we started to make our own mock ups of our digi paks , considering our collective elements that we discussed  in a group and I made this as my potential digi pak front and back :

 

 

What I want to keep in my real digi pak is the idea of having a image of a medium shot or medium close up , cause this is a conventional element which allows audiences to immediately see the artist first . Also , the layout of my front cover , I want to continue this idea of anchoring ( keeping the artist image and artist name close to each other) this allowing the audience to straight away associate the artist name with the artist image .

 

What I would change or improve, is what type of fonts I would use , as for example , as I was drawing and handwriting these it was quiet hard to make a particular font , also I wasn't sure yet what type of font I want to use . Also , I wasn't sure what type of background I want to go for such as a plain white background or a one with graffiti or blue lights .

Inside of Digi Pak :

 

Here I continued to use a medium shot image of our artist Sanaa however her posing different , but still wearing the same thing , this creating less confusion visually for our audience . Also , the CD inside of the album will consist of the same font for the artist name and also album cover , this following the conventions of just using no more than two fonts .

One thing I would change or improve is the background as at this point I'm not sure what I could use as a background but this will soon be changed as I start to do more research !

 

Advertisement:

 

 

 When starting my advertisement , I was quite unsure of the ways I could lay it out, so this lead me to recall what conventions and codes appear on a advertisement . The conventions that appear on a advertisement are the artist name and image , reviews of the artist , out now label , record labels/logos , social medias and availability of the album and where . Here , conveying the anchoring as well as the rule of thirds was hard to presents on a hand made version of my advertisement. However , I tried to show it through the use of the text taking up most of the space , however , due to problems with printing a bigger sized imaged ; I had to stick to this small image , but for my real advertisement I will definitely uses a bigger image .

 

Production of Ancillary product: Shortlisting of images

I shortlisted this image because I thought it was a clear view of who our artist is. Also, i thought it gave audiences a clear idea of the mood of the song and what they can expect to see from 'sanaa'. 

 I shortlisted this image because i thought it was a very neutral, subtle image of our artist which didn't give much away about the mood of the song. I liked the idea of not giving much away because i thought it would intrigue audiences and build up anticipation and excitement. I also liked it because of the blank wall and the full body shot. I felt that this made 'sanaa' the subject of the image, stand out and look very dramatic. It also highlighted her hair which is our motif and unique selling point.

 I shortlisted this image because i liked the contrast of the neutral white colors with the dark black color. I felt that it made the image more bold and dramatic, I also liked the facial expression 'sanaa' was making here because i thought it would give the audience a good insight into who our artist is and the mood of the song.

 I also shortlisted this photo because i thought it showcased and highlighted sanaa's hair which is our motif. I also liked that our artist is laughing in this shot because it instantly gives off a good, happy and fun vibe and gives audiences an insight into the mood of 'sanaa's' music.

Another photo i shortlisted was the image shown below. I shortlisted this image because again, i think it contrasts our artist motif and unique selling point. Also, i like the facial expression which is used here because it doesn't give away much however it may intrigue audiences for this very reason.

Photoshop tutorial:

In class we were guided through the do's and don'ts of design work and then put to the test. We were assigned to create our own practice digi pack. Using my knowledge on the lesson of the do's and don'ts of design work i produced this. It is unfinished but i decided to add a filter as i thought it would make the image look more interesting and intriguing. The font, however i was just playing around with and couldn't quite get the color i was hoping for.

Today's lesson we had one final view/look on our music video before we made a couple more emendments such as editing; a blur that created a fault, doubling checking on the mute of the explicit word that features in the song and correcting an out of sync fault.

The 5th December we have finally finished our music video and our blogs leading up to the finished video. 

The last editing lesson was fast pace and hectic for us all as we were trying to make sure the video was perfect and of course no wanted to be the last person to finish.

We used this last lesson to add the finishing touches and special effects to

help improve our pop/rock music video and give real personality to put Artist.

Reflection on progress

Research; skills audit

What I learnt and how my skills have developed:

 Reflecting back on my AS work, I feel very much confident and more familiar with technical elements that i wasn't before, such as by using a variety of different ICT skills; (Powtoon, Mindmeister). Through using these ICT presentations, I found myself developing useful skills that I could benefit from such as organisational and creative skills.

In terms of research, changes I tried to make from AS, was that I made sure I planned more before I started on any blog tasks. I hoped that by doing this I would have more of a structure formed and thus a clearer approach on my tasks. As well as that, I would essentially keep organised and hence more focused as I would be reflecting using my revsions notes from lessons.

Analysis of Rough Cut :

After receiving feedback from our teacher on our first rough cut , which we touched on , on a previous blog where we said :

Strengths :

• Editing to the beat was good ( Following Goodwin's theory of making a visual link of the image to the sound or beat)
• Shots used were good , we used a variety of shots
• Artist character was excellent , could tell that she was confident , which gave the music video a more vibrant and fun atmosphere , Also kept to Goodwin's theory of the artist looking constantly at the camera .

Weaknesses :

• Our first location of Alexandra Palace (Green area) was good however , slightly contrasted to the rest of our music video locations which were more mernised and urban which suit our artist .
• Also , add more movement within our music video to keep the audience interested .
• The visual structure of the music video is good but it needs more thinking to show the audience and let them know when each part of the song is coming such as the Bridge and Hook

After this feedback had be giving , my group and I decided to change our location of the greenery area , and go for a more urban looking style , this led to us filming at Waterloo Graffiti Tunnel , after doing this we placed our base tracks in the order of how we wanted them .

In light of this feedback , using Camtasia I go through the different changes and edits I made for the change of location and create a close analysis on our first verse .

Editing Day 8

Skills Development

I have learnt various skills in A2 media which have developed through the fast pace course, which has enabled me to run through the course more smoothly. As mention in my animated video the main successful thing I have learnt on the course so far is how to effectively use base track editing so that the footage and mp3 is in sync, without learning this editing skill it would be extremely difficult to create our music video, one thing I realised is that you can never have too much base tracks. Secondly learning how to use slow motion has been effective as it makes the extra footage more professional and fit the conventions of our genre (Pop/Rock). Outside of editing I have learnt how to use various media and photosharing sites to make my blog more personal.

Also I have learnt how effectively about the rule of thirds and effectiveness of camera movement.

Ideas of how to present the blog !

Presentation of Blog :

 

 

After looking at our blog originally , with it a plain white background , I thought that it was about time we tired to make it more visually appealing .

 

So after thinking and considering our branding of our artist Sanaa , I brainstormed all the colours and visual images we associated our artist to have , which I intended to show in the design of our blog .

 

 

First Example :

 

 

Here I used photos from my potential shots for my Digi Pak to try and show the idea of the artist Sanaa different personality , which I placed 4 different photos in a row collage and used this as a background for our artist . I thought this would be a good idea as it attracts the audience straight away to see who the artist is . However ,with this draft I thought the text maybe needed to be changed to give a more closer look to our brand image and also maybe to place the images in a different way. 

 

 

Second Example :

 

 

 

Here I changed the font of our title to a more urban and hand-written style , this giving a more urban and youth looking look to it , this also representing our artist and our group , as well as attracting our younger target audience . Also I tried to keep to our syngerical colours of black and blue apparent in the images as well as the colour of the text . I have also changed the way I placed the images , I made the row collage picture closer together so the images stand out more and also fit the frame of the blog . This being more eye catching and the colours are apparent as well our motif of Sanaa's curly hair . However , I do believe this could be improved even more in a sense that through the use of photo shop I can place the artist name somewhere and also create a banner for the blog .

Rita Ora Similarities

Acoustic version of the  we have chosen shows the depth and definition of the song, it also support the fact that we think the concept should be about having fun.

Looking at Rita Ora costume for the live performance of Roc The Life supports some of the costume choices we have chosen such as; black dress, black blazer and jeans as the song has a rock edge when hearing it live. Also we notice that Rita Ora makeup is simple with her motif red lipstick which is what we tried to follow when creating our music video by having simple makeup.

New Location : Waterloo Graffiti Tunnel

After looking at our teachers feed back we decided to change one of our locations .

Instead of using Alexandra Palace for our first verse , which our teacher gave us advise about it . She stated that it was a good locations and could see what kind of calm and gentle atmosphere we was going for , however , it looks slightly out of place to our other two locations which were more modernised to fit with our urban and pop style . This lead to our New Location of Waterloo Graffiti Tunnel !

While editing for our music vide , I began to think about what showed up most in our music video while I edited it . This helped me see our synergic ideas on screen and how we expected them to look like .

After looking at this , I decided that looking into potential and practice shots for my own digi pak , so after brainstorming what kind of image I wanted I came up with one image that revealed all our synergic ideas as well as our motif of the artists Sanaa , which was her big curly hair .

Here I hired a close friend of mine as well as an A Level Photography student to take these pictures for me .

When filming our music video , I brang along my Canon camera to see if we could take some pictures that could be used for just photos of us filming , but also potential and test shots of pictures that could be used for my Album Cover as well as for the rest of my group .

 

 

 

One Example

 

 

Here I used this photo ,which was taken on our first filming day , I thought this kind of image of myself as the artist standing within the lights would as this was one of our synergic ideas . I then began to use a focus and zoom in affect which I edited on a website called PicMonkey where I placed the focus on and which led the rest of the zoom to zoom out the colours , this could be used on my digi pack or even social medias .

Here is another example which was taken on our last filming day , Namco Funscape had a lot of blue lights so when editing , I wanted to keep this idea of blue lighting and the use of blue colour in perspective . So , when editing on PicMonkey I used a blue tint on my image and also a lighter blue light around myself .

Editing and A Little bit of Our Feedback !

 

 

 

 

 

 

Feedback:

 

Elaborating on our feedback we gave in the video . One of our supportive media teachers watched some of what we have already collectively edited . After watching it a few times , our teacher gave us some feedback of our strengths and weakness of what we already have.

 

Strengths :

 

Great shots where you can clearly see the artist .

Location such as SouthBank relate to artists own reference to London in the song .

Great acting from the artist who seems to be enjoying herself in the music video .

 

Weaknesses :

 

One shot from the our location of Alexandra Palace Park framing is slightly out of the rule of thirds . Our teacher said it was alright , however , to get a better grade we was advanced to film this base track again to make it more accurate and visually entertaining for the audience .

 

Another is the idea could improve our music video that in our greenery location , we need some more movement , to make it more visually entertaining for our target audience .

Reflection On Editing

As you can see from the image I edited on Photoshop, you can see that the editing process is going well for us a group although we have had some little fall backs such as locking tracks and confusion on how many different layers we are working with, it has be going pretty smoothly. I personally feel that our motif of Sanaa's hair is being displayed successfully so far in our music video, later on in the editing process we wish to add slow motion and so on.

Ancillary research :Digi pack Analysis

I thought that Rihanna's Loud album Digi pack was a good example of which relates to our genre. This was mainly because rihanna is in the pop genre and also has the same core target audience as the artist 'Sanaa'. I also thought the themes running througoht Rihanna's loud digi pack matched our chosen genre and would appeal to our target audience. Below in the e-maze I have analysed and highlighted the aspects of the Digi pack which I liked and why I thought it suited our genre and would appeal to our target audience.

Reflection on Day 1 Filming

In terms of our Micro Elements :

Location :
Location was very convenient was wasn't disturbed so generally it was a good day , also the location area wasn't not heavy busy ,meaning it was easy to set up and start filming as soon as we reached there.
Costume:
My costume didn't have any problems while I was wearing it , however it was very cold and the costume was quite a thin material , However , this didn't disturb the filming process !
Filming :
Due to having a good location , filming went easily and quickly as we were confident of the shots we wanted and where we wanted to film them . Generally , a very productive day !

Within regards to our music video 'Sanaa - Roc The Life' we have tried to convey the conventions of a pop music video as shown in the prezi below.

Skills Development

From thinking back to my AS media blog when planning before I used little detail and was very restricted in the types of research I used in a sense that I reached out to less people and also could have looked at similar genres in order to full understand the genre I was undergoing. However in my A2 media studies I went into full detail of understanding the coventions of a pop music video which were full of dancing performance, make up, tight clothing, breaking the fourth wall, clear locations and various close ups of the artist which in our case would be Sanaa.

I also decided to go foward with reaching out to the original artist of the song Roc The Life who is Rita Ora I took it upon myself to reach out to people who suited our audience and ask them various questions on what they expect and also reach out to Rita's real fans through fan websites, twitter, facebook and instagram. I done this as it enables the whole group to fully understand what we should convey in our music video to fully appeal to the audience.

I also used different forms of media which I did not use in AS such as powtoon, emaze, mural-ly etc allowing me to develop skills within more ICT. I have also become more comfortable with using Final Cut Pro.

Reflection on Progress

Previously in my 'Reflection On Progress' I self assessed myself and thought deeply about what I  need to focus on when bloggin about planning and how to help improve my performance and demonstration of the research I will begin to use.
The three targets:

• More frequent blogs to display interest
• Become more comfortable with different ICT
• Use different forms of research

I think that overall the main target I have fully stuck to and improved on is 'become more comfortable with different ICT' as throughout the planning process and pitch I tried to use as many different forms of ICT as possible such as Powtoon, Slideshare, Prezi and so on. I also focused on point three which was to 'use different forms of research' instead of using the traditonal forms of research I decided to undergo some primary research and reach out to fans through websites, facebook and instagram which I have never thought to use as research before.

I personally feel I still need to manage frequrnt blogs better to keep the process going there for I would give myself a 14 as I am up to date with blogging and are mainting my targets.

Two new targets:

• Blog 3x week minimum
• Be more visual with posts such as video's/pictures.
