Filming Process
This is two pictures and a video I filmed whilst we were out on our first location. I found that filming on the first day was very productive as we got many base tracks and extra footage that we could later edit for slow motions etc.

Pitch feedback
Pitch Feedback :
After presenting our pitch with our overall idea's of our music video and also research into how we can create our artist we received a lot of useful feedback to consider that we could change but also any adjustments to our final filming plan .
From this feedback it made us realise a few things about our initial filming ideas and that we might need to have a few changes :
Production Schedule :
In terms of when and where we are filming , due to having people in our group working we decided that our filming dates should not start on Saturday 26th of October , rather it should start on the 27th allowing the whole group to be their and give all our opinions on filming .

Influenced our music videos
Within the pop genre there are many convention which do depend on the artist and how they would like to portray themselves to their audience. One common thing I have noticed is the use of close ups in the beginning of the music video and also casual clothing as pop songs are usually upbeat and have a positive vibe. Below I have analysed some videos which relate to our song choice of Rita Ora - Roc The Life.
Analysis of original video
As Roc The Life has no music video I decided to analyse her album cover of the song and view the conventions of this and see if the album cover compliments the song.
The song is originally from the album Ora which straight away gives off that this album is about her time to shine and her fame, which does support the lyrics of her song Roc The Life " Maybe one day I'll live there, Beyond the stars, Like a zillionaire " - This lyric definitely supports what the album name portrays.
The album cover is a close up of the artist and yet again her signature lipstick is visually known to the audience therefore you would be expect to see this throughout all the music video. As it is a a close up it makes it visually clear that she wants to be the main focus. Also her font and names or visually bigger than the actual album name I believe the reason behind this is because this was Rita Ora's first album.

Lyric Analysis
As I am going to be the artist for this group , after discussing potential ideas for the music video , I gathered this information from my group and some of my own thoughts by looking at the lyrics and analyse ideas or shots that could be included in our music video !

Individual Audience Task
The fact that Mary shops in Tesco and Sainsbury is a bonus because this is where Sanaa album would be sold with the hit single Roc The Life, therefore it will be easy for Mary to have access to purchas this album. Also her interest of shopping makes it easier for her to relate to the actual artist as Sanaa's costumes have been purchased from various similar shops such as TopShop and Zara. As you can tell we have carefully selected our artist image around the audience in order for the target audience to relate to Sanaa.

20) Sanaa El-Haouzi : Evaluation
In terms of how we are going approach our evaluation questions , we decided to brainstorm ways we could present and also be able to answer the questions :
Question 1 :
"In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?"
- In terms of this question , I decided to look at the different words which may confuse us in general , after doing this we realised this question is asking as about how our own media products , referring to the music videos and digi paks will follow or challenge different forms of actual media products and if they follow the conventions or not
To do this we decided that using a emaze presentation or prezi presentation would be best as we can show our comparison of our own products and how they differ from other real products used to promote artists . This can also show the use of timetoast showing the conventions in both our music video and a real artists music video .
Question 2 :
"How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?"
- To approach this question , we need to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of our main product as well as our supporting texts , after doing this we could use a thinglink to reveal the benefits of using the combinations together and how both have helped improve our work on both practical and theatrical elements of the course .
Question 3 :
"What have you learnt from your audience feedback"
- When looking at this we decided that in terms of audience , we definitely need to meet our target audience so researching this will be quite important . To do this , we need to search in ways to get in contact with our contacts . Firstly , this could be done by making a questionnaire or survey in which we can contact people in person or online about our Music Video asking them what they enjoyed and what they didn't . Secondly , we could also self-interviews those of our target group asking them about what they enjoyed about our music video . To show this , using Camtasia would be useful as we can add an commentary explaining the results we got .
Question 4 :
"How did you use media technologies in the construction and research , planning and evaluation ?"
- Looking at this question , we need to look at all the different ICT used to present our media work in general and see how they helped present certain areas of research , or planning . Also , how we considered the presentation of our work . Using a different type of ICT will be good for this as it shows the variety of the different media technologies we have used , it also shows our ability to consider presentation and as well ICT's which reveal our work as well.

19) Sanaa El-Haouzi : Social Media
Social Media
To keep our audience and also others in contact and update with our filming process we decided to make social media accounts . For example , we decided to make an Instagram and Twitter account as we found that these social networks are used by many young teenagers , young adults , and students between the ages of 13-21 years old who like the use pop genre . But it is also used by other ages , genders and classes:
Twitter :
@a2mediagroup29
Instagram :

18) Sanaa El-Haouzi : Risk Assessment
Risk Assessment
When filming in different locations and days , you need to consider and asses all the aspects of filming and any possible dangers that could arise when filming . So after brainstorming , we came up with a list of hazards and how we could solve or even avoid dangers .
17) Sanaa El-Haouzi : Production Schedule
In terms of making a music video , all our group including myself understand and learnt from our AS year the importance of having a Production Schedule so I decided to show our production schedule through Time Toast .
16) Sanaa El-Haouzi : Animatic storyboard
After making a storyboard as a group we wanted to see our ideas visually displayed along side our the song chosen . This lead to me making this short clip illustrating way the shots and shot types are shown in relation to the song .
15) Sanaa El-Haouzi : Storyboard
Storyboards are necessary when recording anything as they are your guide line and allow you to create your vision before actually filming , this becoming more time efficient as you already know your concept , leading you to just to go out and film with our shot by shot storyboard to follow . As a group we saw the importance of our storyboard of including as many variety shots as possible so we tried to incorporate these shots in our storyboard .
Pitch: Theory - Aneeka Peart
Our music video will follow Andrew Goodwin's theory in the sense of the use of repetition of the the same locations and costumes and this will be done through jump cuts, which is very common in music video's and also what Andrew Goodwin was relating to when talking about his theory.
In the video the artist will become the narrator and the character as she will be narrating the lyrics but also playing the key character of having fun and just entertaining the audience. Our video will be displayed through disjuncture as this is a very common for pop music as the lyrics are about wanting hollywood lifestyle, however throughout our video its about people having fun and enjoying the music.

10)Draft Digipak and Advertisement
1) This digipak has the colour palate of blue and black to make it a visual similarity so that the audience can be familiar with the artist and know what to expect to see with the artist. And the hair is used as motif throughout, on the back the of digipak I would use an image if the artists hair so this is a constant reminder to the audience.
I will be using photoshop for my final Digipak this is a draft cover of what I would like to portray.
In my advertisement using the colours from the colour palate which are used throughout the music video, digipak and advertisement, in the background I would again use the motif and have a blue and black fade over the image to be a visual link. Also begin visually attractive to an audience

Pitch: Location and Setting - Aneeka Peart
As a group there are three main locations we are certain we would like to film our music video in, all these locations link in with the genre pop/rock.
1) Kings Cross Fountain - This location we be used in throughout the first verse to immediately draw in the audience with a visually exciting location. The location disjuncture to the lyrics however it may display to the audience how the artist is the main attention and everything is behind her which is similar to her lyrics as its all about her " You think you crazy, I'm berserk, I'm off the chain, you gotta love it "
2) Southbank arcade (Namco Funscape)- We asked for permission to use the area to film and the staff we're open to the idea as long as it does make a big disturbance to customers and the business. This location is funky and would be used throughout the second verse as she talks about being in the lights and super glamorous, within this location there are many nice setting areas and neon blue lights which links in with our colour palate of black and blue. Also intrigue the audience as they themselves may attend these places often and be familiar with the atmosphere.
3) Alexandra Palace Park - This location would be used throughout the third/fourth verse as the tempo of the song slows down and becomes more personal therefore having a location that is simple will suit and they'll be no visual distractions unlike the other two locations. Having outside greenery locations is common within the pop genre for example Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea and Ellie Goulding.

Overall all locations are very popular within this genre of pop as they use locations which are external/internal but still give visual excitement to the audience

Sanaa El-Haouzi : Pitch : Brand Image ( Our Artist )
Brand Image :
Elaborating on from Fahmida's post on our brand image , I decided as being the artist it would be great if you could visually show our audience what our artist looks like . This lead to having a small photo-shoot of our artist , where the pictures were taken by my close friend Lauren ( also a A Level Photography student ) . where she also helped me for ideas for my own digi pak .
Here are a few of the photos she toke which I thought were the best to show our artist Sanaa.
My Top Two Favourite :
I like this one as I can clearly notice the artist through her big curly hair . Which is our motif in our music video and what we want our artist to be known for . Also , we have the colour of black within her clothing which is our synergic colour which we want to run through out our music video as well as through our digi paks . We also added the colour of blue through the bracelet which Sanaa is showing on the screen.
Here , the use of our synergic colours of black and blue have been added here to keep the audience remembering what colours our artist wears , making a link between the colours and our artist , this making her even more memorable !. Here we also added light makeup and a bit of lipstick which we later discuss in our pitch .
Fahmida Nehar - 2. Song choice:
The song we have chosen is Rita Ora - Roc the life . There is no music video to this, however if there was we definitely think it would fit the conventions of a pop music video.
Ways in which our music video will fit conventions of a pop music video:
Ways in which our music video will fit conventions of a pop music video:
- Variety of cliché locations often used in pop videos
- Range of casual and trendy costumes
- Pace of editing
- variety of different shots
- Illustration
- conventional close up shots of a feature on the face. For example, the lips.

Reflection on Progress
So far , looking at my research blogs I feel that I have done quite well on keeping up with the deadlines . While doing them , I have enjoyed doing the research and looking into what music videos consist as it has taught me a lot about how they are constructed .
Compared to AS year , I believe this year that I'm more confident on using different media forms to present my work , and have realised that presentation using different ICT is essential within blogging .
In terms of marking myself out of 20 , I would think I would have a 13/20 as I have managed to use different ICT to present my work but I could find other technologies to use to present my blogging tasks.
I have also realised a few improvements that I could consider for the rest of my A2 year :
- Try to expand my research notes , by doing own self -research to show self involvement
- Use different ICT forms , expand and use a wide range of as many as I can .
- Make sure my blogging work looks presentable as a real blog.

Reflection on Progress
I feel that so far just on my research blogs have been good as I have enjoyed doing the research and tried to use different forms of ICT for each blog to show variety and keep people interested. Since last year I feel my time keeping on when to do blogs has improved as I have managed to stay on top of individual and group blogs and put in full detailed effort within these blog posts. If I had give me a mark out of 20 I would give myself a 11 as sometimes I could do blogs which are not always required to display my interest in the subject.
Three things to improve
Three things to improve
- More frequent blogs to display interest
- Become more comfortable with different ICT
- Use different forms of research
Skills audit
Since my AS media coursework I personally believe that my skills have enhanced as I have become more comfortable with using various types of presentation skills and also different ways of blogging. I think that my most different thing about blogging in A2 media studies is I have tried to use a variety of different ICT to show I understand the different forms of media and also show I can make detailed research notes. In my practical work I have developed my work and reflected on the weaknesses I had throughout AS media and tried to develop my work from this.

Lipsync Tutorial Video Task
After learning about Lip-syncing and practicing on editing Final Cut pro of already posted footage , we decided ourselves to go out and film a lip sync tutorial to Delilah - Never be another .
Within this task , we had to record 50 seconds of Delilah's first verse as well as trying to incorporate repeated close ups ., a range of mid-shots , longs , tracking , panning and tilts .
After reading this brief we made a shot list , then a storyboard to help us film . After this we went to go film and have ended up with our final piece :

Final song choice
After looking at our different song choices and in our themes of pop genre , we finally decided to go for this song :
For this song , we found it was one of the best of our other options , this is because it had a female vocalists , benefiting our all female group , it also followed our want of an up-beat / pop genre and had clear verses , chorus and outro , and the best thing of all , it doesn't have a music video , meaning we are not restricted with concepts and ideas.

Mainstream Vs Indie
When looking into Music Videos and Music genres its easy to tell the difference between an Mainstream group or artist , or a indie group/artist .
When looking at mainstream artists and Indie independent artists in class , we looked at One Directions - Best Song Ever and also Lanterns On The Lake - Another Tale From Another English Tale , where we started researching everything about the group :
Record Labels :
Colombia Records : Which are owned by Sony Music Entertainment ( which is also owned by Simon Cowell) , but consists a variety of different genre artists such as Beyoncé , Britney Spears , Carly Rae Jepsen and Adele .
Lanterns On The Lake
Bella Union : Small independent label with various independent artist such as John Grant and Marissa Nadler .
Target Audience :
Merchandise :
Purchasing Music :
The benefits of being with a mainstream label and a mainstream artist means you have large sum of money due to being apart of a record company / label which are quite popular , this means that money is invested into your music videos ; this making it easier and more quicker to be able gather a large audience due to the ability to create an interesting and creative music video that is visually entertaining for the audience . This can lead the artist to then being able to use this music video and mainstream label to sell their merchandise which can lead to bigger sales of tours , concerts and etc . One disadvantage however of being apart of an mainstream label is that you are not able to invest or use your own creative visuals on your music video as you are provided with a team such as directors , stylists , choreographers who all do this for you .
Being signed to an independent label has its advantages such as it means that you can be creative and self-achieve and do the things you want for your career However , due to having a lower budget than mainstream labels , it means the videos can not be made to the high quality standards of mainstream which may lead it to be less visually entertaining this affect and creating indie bands to have very niche audiences .
